Singapore Days
Singapore is an amazing country. It's a fabulous holiday place for all age groups....whether you are old or young, whether you are travelling with kids....whether u are on a honeymoon...or travelling alone....Singapore has lots to offer ...to all age groups and all types of people.
In a short span of 50 years of Independence Singapore has become one of the most outstanding countries in the world.
It's absolutely safe to travel anywhere in Singapore at any time... alone....
unlike in many other parts of the globe.
Singapore boasts of some of the top holiday attractions of SE Asia.
Our first four days in Singapore was with the Moon travels group from Cochin, with whom we did the half day city tour, Singapore flyer, Night Safari, Gardens by the Bay, Jurong Bird Park, Universal Studio and a few attractions in Sentosa.
Subsequently we went around with our daughter and family ....There are lots and lots of things to do here and one holiday is not enough to see and do everything.
Here are some of the top attractions.
Singapore Flyer
The Singapore flyer is one of the world's tallest Ferris Wheel with 28 air conditioned capsules. As you go up you get a wonderful view of Singapore and parts of neighbouring Malaysia and Indonesia as well. It takes 30 minutes for one complete rotation. It's a very slow ride but full of fun. We took the ride before lunch but a spin at sunset would be really lovely.
You can also avail their special in-flight packages and enjoy High Tea / Fine Dining inside some of the capsules
As we drove through the streets of Singapore from Malaysia border we were told that Singapore is the most expensive place in the world to own a car. It costs $ 30K - 40 K for a certificate that is valid for 10 years, to buy a car. And therefore you don't find vehicles that are more than 10 years old on the streets of Singapore.

There are lots of things to do at the base of the flyer .....like ...
We took a package with Singapore City Tours, ..the reviews were not very good but their packages are budget friendly so we thought we give it a try and I must admit it was really good. I found many of the things that I read were absolutely wrong.
The package that we chose included 48 hours hop on hop off tour, the DukW tour, night funvee and the Singapore Zoo. Plus we got an additional bonus of one extra day of funvee.
The Hop on Hop off Funvee Bus Tour
The open top Hop on Hop off funvee bus comes with pre recorded audio commentary describing the attractions as we drive past them. There are three routes Green and Orange that takes us through the main highlights of the city and the Red line that takes us to Sentosa and back. We may hop off at any of the stops to explore more on our own and then hop on again onto the next bus. However we chose not to alight from the bus and got back to the flyer after completing the circle. With lovely views from the top of the open bus this is a great way to see the highlights of Singapore. It's a very good option to see all the main attractions if you do not have much time at your disposal.
The Funvee open top double decker bus
We covered the Esplanade (Padang), Merlion Park, Clarke Quay, China Town, Miramar Hotel, Great World City (a mall), Botanic Gardens, Orchard Road, Dhoby Gaut MRT, Raffles.....And then the Marina Bay Sands, Gardens by the Bay, Marina Barrage, Buddha Tooth Relic and Mariamman Temples in China Town, Little India and Arab Street with both the Green and Orange routes.

Captain DukW
The amphibious DukW tour was a memorable experience...We started off with a tour around the city....drove past the Esplanade, Padang, Supreme Court ...etc and then .... WOW.. splash down into the waters of the Marina Bay...to view Singapore's icon the Merlion, Marina Bay Sands, the Helix Bridge ....and much more...it's full of fun and excitement...a ride both on land and water.....a ride which no tourist should miss. From land to water and back to land again...a one hour fantastic tour

DukW getting back to land
This is a fully guided one hour tour. We were accompanied by Ms Ann ( I hope I got her name right) of City Tours who gave us an overview of each and every attraction as we rode past them. The boat slowed down near the Merlion and spent some time there to enable tourists to take pictures.
City tours package was indeed nice except for their apology of a free gift of a goody bag worth $ 23.
The Merlion
Singapore's icon, the mythical Merlion with the head of a lion and body of a fish represents the growth of the country from a humble fishing village known as "Temasek" to the lion city "Singapore" (Singa is lion and pura means city) that it is today. The Merlion Statue with a height of 8.6 metres and water spouting from its mouth is a must see attraction for visitors to the country. Do not forget to take a photo alongside the mythical Merlion. There is also a "Merlion Cub" which is about 2 metres tall, nearby.
I shall be back with more Singapore Attractions.......as we saw them.
Wild Life Parks
- Kenko reflexology and fish spa,
- Flight Experience (Be a pilot for a day) etc.
- Please do go for the Singapore Food Trail and enjoy local fare. ( However we had our lunch at Tandoor, one of the restaurants at the base of the flyer)
- Take a hop on hop off funvee (open top double decker bus) tour to enjoy the city sights.
- Go for the Captain DukW ride ( it's an authentic revamped amphibious boat)
